私の国際交流での思い出はたくさんの人との出会いや運と縁によって恵まれたものばかりです。そして私にとってのターニングポイントは、FOSA(福岡県留学生会)の会長を務めた時です。様々なイベントを参加したり、実施したりすることで普段体験することのできない貴重な経験をさせていただきました。社会人になった今でも、その経験があるからこそ、今の仕事にも活かされています。たくさんの方々に巡り会えて、その出会いによってネットワークや人脈が広がり、さらに今では(マネジメントおよびキャリア)コンサルタントとして日本とインドネシアの架け橋となる仕事をしています。
国際交流のいいところは、異文化に対する理解と認識を深め、自らの生活や地域社会・文化の再構築を図ることと、幅広い交流を行うことによって、言語や生活・習慣等の相違を越えた心と心のふれあいをもたらし、国際社会に貢献する豊かな人間形成を行うことができます。
My memories of international exchange are full of fortunate encounters and connections with many people. A turning point for me was when I served as the president of FOSA (Fukuoka Overseas Students Association). By participating in and organizing various events, I gained valuable experiences that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Even now, as a working professional, those experiences are helping me in my current job. Meeting so many people expanded my network, and now I work as a (management and career) consultant, acting as a bridge between Japan and Indonesia. The great thing about international exchange is that it deepens understanding and awareness of different cultures, helps rebuild one’s own community and culture, and fosters meaningful connections that go beyond differences in language and lifestyle. It also contributes to developing well-rounded individuals who can contribute to the international community

国際学生としての経験
福岡に住む国際学生として、私の旅は本当に素晴らしく、充実したものでした。2.5年前にこちらに移り住み、日本社会に積極的に溶け込み、つながりを築くことを目指しました。外部者として感じることなく、福岡を自分の家のように感じられるようになりたいと考えていました。福岡の温かいコミュニティに心から歓迎され、笑顔と親切で迎えてもらいました。
福岡は、決して退屈することのない活気ある都市です。現代的な施設、田園風景、美しい森林が融合しており、国際住民に対しても大変配慮されています。日本語のコースも提供されており、私たちが自信を持つ手助けをしてくれています。また、日本語の指導をしてくださる緒方先生と平田先生には、多大なご指導とご厚情をいただき、感謝しています。
私はFOSAに参加し、現在は会長として活動しています。この役割は素晴らしい経験となり、私を支えてくださったコミュニティに貢献できる機会を与えてくれました。以前、イギリス、特にロンドンでの留学経験も貴重でしたが、日本で受けた温かさと歓迎は比類のないものでした。
福岡の人々の親切さは数多くの例で示されています。例えば、雨の中で見知らぬ人が傘を貸してくれたり、道に迷った時に10分間歩いて目的地まで案内してくれたりしました。このホスピタリティのレベルは、パレスチナの温かさと寛大さを思い起こさせ、本当に家にいるような気持ちにさせてくれました。
会長としての私の目標は、福岡および日本と国際コミュニティに対して、福岡が私に与えてくれた同じ感覚を提供し、日本文化の美しさを国際学生に紹介することです。彼らが母国に帰る際には、日本と福岡についてポジティブな印象を共有してくれることを願っています。
また、FOSAがより多くの日本人が参加し、英語のコミュニケーション能力を向上させ、他の文化について学ぶことができる場所であることを望んでいます。そのために、私たちのイベントでは日本語と英語の両方で進行し、全員が完全に理解し、関与できるようにしています。
FOSAでは、福岡帰国留学生交流会のメンバーであるあきこさま(片野明子)、むたさま(牟田慎一郎)、のぐちさま(野口照代)、ひろみさま(大江ヒロミ)、山川さま(山川千鶴子)、かわべさま(河部正)、ヤジ(矢島清央)さまなど、素晴らしい方々と出会いました。彼らの支援と親切によって、家族の一員のように感じています。例えば、河部さんと観光会社の仲間たちとの福岡周辺のツアーは非常に有意義でした。福岡の歴史について多くを学ぶことができました。
九州大学での学びもまた、私の旅の中で誇りに思う側面の一つです。さらに、志村先生との茶道体験は、日本文化の美しさと抹茶や緑茶の健康効果を紹介してくれる素晴らしい機会でした。福岡での生活とその素晴らしいコミュニティの一部であることに感謝し、今後も福岡と日本での素晴らしい経験を楽しみにしています。
As an international student living in Fukuoka, my journey has been truly wonderful and enriching. I moved here 2.5 years ago, eager to immerse myself in Japanese society and build connections from the start. My goal was to avoid feeling like an outsider and to create a sense of belonging, making Fukuoka feel like home. I was warmly welcomed by Fukuoka’s friendly community, who embraced me with open arms, smiles, and kindness.
Fukuoka is a vibrant city where you can never get bored. It offers a blend of modern amenities, rural landscapes, and beautiful forests. The city takes great care of its international residents and provides Japanese language courses to help us build confidence. I am also grateful for my Japanese teachers, Ogata-sensei and Hirata-sensei, who have provided me with so much guidance and affection.
I joined FOSA and am currently serving as its president. This role has been a fantastic experience, allowing me to contribute to the community that has supported me. My previous experience studying abroad in Great Britain, particularly in London, was also valuable, but the warmth and welcome I’ve received in Japan are unmatched. There are many examples of the kindness of the people in Fukuoka. For instance, strangers have offered me their umbrellas in the rain or walked with me for ten minutes to help me reach my destination when I was lost. This level of hospitality reminded me of the warmth and generosity that Palestinians extend to strangers, making me feel truly at home.
As president, my goal is to give back to Fukuoka and the Japanese and international communities here. I aim to offer others the same sense of home that Fukuoka provided me and to help showcase the beauty of Japanese culture to international students. I hope that when they return to their home countries, they will share positive impressions of Japan and Fukuoka.
I also want FOSA to be a place where more Japanese people feel encouraged to join, so they can improve their English communication skills and learn about other cultures. To achieve this, I ensure that our events are conducted in both Japanese and English, so everyone can fully understand and feel involved.
At FOSA, I have met wonderful people like Mrs.Akiko, Mr.Muta, Mrs.Noguchi, Mrs.Hiromi, Mrs.Yamakawa, Mr.Kawabe, and Mr.Yaji, who are also members of the Fukuoka Returnee International Student Association. Their support and kindness have made me feel like part of a family. For example, the tour around Fukuoka with Mr. Kawabe and his colleagues from the tourism company was very enriching, as I learned a great deal about the history of Fukuoka.
Studying at Kyushu University has been another aspect of my journey that I am proud of. Additionally, participating in tea ceremonies with Shimura-sensei has introduced me to the beauty of Japanese culture and the health benefits of matcha and green tea. I am grateful for the opportunity to live in Fukuoka and be part of its wonderful community as a Palestinian and I look forward to more wonderful experiences in Fukuoka and Japan.
